Day 13

Image
Today I woke up around 7:30 am to get a head start on my day. I did my whole morning routine then around 8:00 am I sat down at my computer with my coffee and wrote my blog for Monday and got all of the images that I need to print for express fest organized on a google doc so they are ready to print tomorrow morning. After I was done writing my final reflection I went over to Jake's to get a coffee with friends before going to our last senior seminar at 11:00 AM. After I brought the Connecticut College to my friend Emily who it was for, then headed back to my room to continue cutting images for my UVM collage. I know that I will not be able to finish this last collage during senior project, but I told the girl that it is for that it will be completed before graduation. Tonight I have been continuing to cut images and have started the layout to start gluing tomorrow!  Hours: 7 hours total 8:00 am - 10:30 am  1:00 pm - 3:00 pm  8:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Day 12

Image
On Monday I woke up around 8:00 am and decided to work from my dorm room because the night before I had done the layout for the Connecticut College collage and I did not want to mess it up. I also had all of the materials needed for me to complete it. Since I already knew what the lay out was going to look like, I knew that I was going to have to print out more images. So before senior seminar at 11:30 I went to the library and printed them all out, and on my way out I ran into my friends Olivia and Emily and we headed over to Jake's before seminar. After senior seminar and taking a little break to go eat lunch with friends, I picked up one last pre-made canvas from Corby to complete the UVM collage. Once I got back to my dorm around 1:00 pm, I started working on cutting those last few images and gluing them on and same thing with some smaller images to fill in the blank spaces. Once I was done I added on the first layer of mod podge, then let it dry and added on a second layer to

Weekly reflection 5/17 - 5/22

This past week I was about to complete over 32 hours of work and 3 different collages. Most days were more or less the same with making my college by cutting, gluing or printing. I feel like I have been very responsible with my time this past week by taking advantage of all my available time. I have enjoyed being in Slocumb during this time because it is such a laid back atmosphere yet everyone around you is working hard and keeping their focus it makes you do the same thing. My mentor, Corby, has let me have free rain on what I do with my time in Slocumb. He lets me decide when I can come in, what my goals are and how I plan out my collages.  Once I ran out of pre-made collages, I thought that I was going to have to make more which would have taken me a full day. So Corby and I decided that it would be better for me to order more canvases from Amazon. The next day Corby told me that he found some pre-made canvases in the supply closet that I am able to use. This made the process of c

Day 11

Image
Today I arrived at Slocumb around 9:00 am and working until 12:00 pm. I got started right away with cutting some smaller images like hearts and stars to fill in the blank spaces for the Fairfield University collage. Once that was all done I added the first coat of mod podge and while I waited for that to dry I started planning out the lay out for the Connecticut College collage. Once the glue was dried of the Fairfield collage I went back and added a second coat. After that I took both collages and images need back to my dorm to continue working from there.  Hours: 3 hours total 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Day 10

Image
Yesterday I arrived at Slocumb around 8:30 set up my station and right away Kingsley came to pick up her finished DU collage. Then Corby told me he found some extra pre-made canvases in the supply closet. This was so exciting for me because a few days prier we discussed the fact that there was not enough time left of senior project to make canvases. After I got started right away on cutting a few more  images for the Fairfield University collage . I spent most of the morning figuring out the layout that I wanted. I was able to glue down some but I was unable to finish because I had to leave for my lacrosse game. Later that I night I went back to Slocumb to finish gluing down all of the images until 9:30 pm! Hours: 6.5 hours total 8:30 am - 11:00pm 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Day 9

Image
Today I arrived to Slocumb around 8:30 am to finish filling in some of the blank spaces on the DU collage with smaller images of stars and lightning bolts. Once all of the spaces were filled I added the first layer of mod podge and let it sit for a few hours to dry. I then left around 11:00 am and went to senior seminar and lunch. After I went back to Slocumb and added a second coat of mod podge to the DU collage to finish it up and then started cutting up images for the UVM collage until 2:30 when I headed back to my dorm. Tonight I am continuing work on cutting images for the UVM collage to put me in a good place for tomorrow. Hours: 6 hours 8:30 am - 11:00 am 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Day 8

Image
Yesterday I arrived to Slocumb around 9:30 am and spent most of the morning cutting images for my Fairfield University collage. This process took me most of the morning and up until lunch time. After I took some time off to go back to my room, eat some food and sit outside with friends, I arrived back at Slocumb around 1:00 pm and worked until 2:00 to complete the layout of the DU collage. I went back to Slocumb around 7:30 pm and glued every image for the DU collage onto the canvas, then finished up around 9:30 pm and headed back to my dorm. Hours: 5.5 hours total 9:30 am - 12:00 pm 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Day 7

First thing I did after I woke up and got myself ready for the day was head over to Slocumb to add a second coat of mod podge to the SLU collage so that it would be ready to be picked up either today or tomorrow. Once that was out of the way I spent much of the morning and afternoon cutting images for the University of Denver collage. There was about 20 sheets of images so it took me most of the morning and afternoon hours to complete. By the end of the day I took out the last canvas that I had and placed the center image for the DU collage and glued it down, this makes it easier to plan out where the rest of the images will go. Before I went to bed I cut out images for the Fairfield University collage to help put me in a good place for tomorrow. Hours: 7 hours 9:00 am - 12:30 pm 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm 10:00 pm - 12:00 am

Day 6

Image
Today I did not get as much done as I hoped to but I was able to prepare for the week ahead. I started off my day by going to the library around 9:00 am and printing out five different sets of images to start cutting out. I then went over to Slocumb to finish out my second SLU collage by cutting out smaller images it fill in blank spaces then adding the first coat of mod podge. After I decided to go back to my dorm to cut out images for my Connecticut College collage. I was not able to get very far because of a doctors appointment that took up most of my afternoon. Later tonight I continued to cut images to prepare me for tomorrow, where I plan to add a second coat of mod podge to finish the SLU collage then start the Connecticut College collage. Hours: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Weekly reflection 5/10 - 5/15

Over the past two weeks I have been able to complete 4 collages and have works for over 30 hours in the past 5 days! The first day was mainly about finding a routine and realizing that we get to make our own schedules and it is on us to make sure that we get our job completed by the end of the day. I really enjoy being in Slocumb during this time because it is such a laid back atmosphere yet everyone around you is working hard and keeping their focus it makes you do the same thing. My mentor, Corby, has let me be independent with my project but reminds me that he is always there to help whenever I need it. He lets me decide when I can come in, what my goals are and how I plan out my collages.     Everyday kind of looks that same because I have to go through the same steps to complete my collages. Either heading over to the library to print out images first thing or going straight to Slocumb to start cutting images and glueing them on. The most time consuming part of this whole p

Day 5

Image
On Friday my day was pretty similar to the past few. I got up, did my normal morning routine and headed over to Slocumb around 9:00 am. The first thing that I got done was adding a second coat of mod podge to my first SLU collage and then let it sit out to dry. Since I had to make a second SLU collage, to save time I decided to follow to same pattern of images to save me some time. For the rest of the day I spent most of my time cutting pieces and gluing them down. On Monday I will have to go to the library to print some more images to hep finish this collage but also to print out images for my next order! Hours: 5 hours total 9:00 am - 12:30 pm 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Day 4

Image
Today I decided to get up early to get a head start on my collages. I got to Slocumb around 8:00 am and immediately laid down a second coat of mod podge on the Wesleyan collage to secure all of the images and let it dry out for the rest of the day. I then went back to my SLU collage and continued to lay out where I wanted the images to be. As I was doing that I glued them down to keep it all in place. Around 12:30 I finished glueing everything in place then I did the first coat of mod podge and set it out to dry. To end the day I started cutting out pieces for the second SLU collage so I can be in a good place for tomorrow! Hours: 6 hours total 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Day 3

Image
Today I made sure to get up early and head over to the studio so I can get my day started. I got to Slocumb around 8:30 am with the plan to finish the Wesleyan collage then move onto the SLU collage. I first set up my area with all of the images and mad paug that I needed. I finished gluing down everything and adding a coat of mod paug to secure all the images before lunch. I took a break around 12:30 pm but returned to the studio at 1:00 pm to start the SLU collage, so I took the next hour and a half to place all of the images and then start to glue down any that I could so I can be in a good place for tomorrow! Hours: 6.5 hours total 8:30 am - 12:30 pm 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Day 2

Image
Today started out similar to yesterday, I woke up around 8:30 am and headed over to Slocumb at 9:45.  My plan for today was to lay out all of the pieces that I cut out yesterday on one of my canvases then glue this down. As I started to lay pieces down, I realized that I was not going to have enough to fill the whole canvases. What I decided to do instead was glue down the pieces that were already in place then go to the library after lunch and print more. Once I had all of the new images printed and cut out it was around 1:30 pm, so for the rest of the day I continued to glue and find places for the new images. The lack of images the I had did put me back a few steps but now I know that tomorrow I need to get to Slocumb early to finish the Wesleyan collage and start my SLU collage. Hours: 6 hours total 9:45am - 12:45pm 1:30pm - 2:30pm 10:00pm - 12:00am

Day 1

Image
Today was the first day of senior project, so for me it was all about finding a routine to get into. I woke up around 8:30 am and got ready for the day then headed over to the library around 10:00 am. There I focused on sizing some images that needed to be printed for my current collage and up coming ones. About an hour later I headed over to Slocumb to set up my spot at one of the tables and started the process of cutting images for my third collage for my friend Ayla who will be going to Wesleyan. The process of cutting takes a while so I spent all of my day doing that so tomorrow I can arrive to Slocumb and start laying out all of the images and gluing them down. My day ended around 2:30 pm when I finished cutting all of the images and cleaning up my area to then head off to sports for the rest of the afternoon. Tonight I will try to get ahead by cutting images for my following collage for St. Lawrence University. You all can also follow along with my work through my instagram @ co
